This service uses the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) on port number 123.

Description:
The Network Time Protocol describes the time using a finite 64 bit value.The most significant 32-bits are used to represent the number of seconds which have elapsed since Midnight 1st Jan 1900. The least significant 32-bits represent fractions of a second.
Warning Y2K36 BUG:
Being finite the counter will overflow and reset to zero at teatime on the 6th or 7th of Feb 2036 (you do the math), I intend to be taking a well deserved break at this time. Please complain to the relevant authorities.
You are authorised to set your time by this server. Only other NTP servers may modify the time on this server. You must not attempt to modify the time on this server.
